Case Management Seminars

Case Managers seminar presentation

With the commencement of new support staff within the office of Criminal Injuries Compensation this year, the Assessors prepared and presented a series of seminars for Case Managers to educate and inform them of various aspects of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Act 2003 and its application to the daily tasks case managers performed within the office.

These seminars included information regarding the background and history to the commencement of the Act, assessment and management of claims arising from the death of a person, how to manage claims involving economic loss and the application and interpretation of various limiting and exclusionary provisions under the Act.

The seminar series considered the various issues outlined applying a trauma-informed approach paying particular attention to the modes of communication with traumatised applicants and ran every week over a 10 week period and was well attended.

In accordance with our business strategy 2020 to 2022, the OCIC remain focussed on providing educational opportunities to staff to develop workplace practice, knowledge and skills to best understand and meet the needs of victims of crime in Western Australia who access our services.

These seminars will continue on a monthly basis in 2021 to ensure staff remain abreast of aspects of the legislation and its practical application and implementation.
